I've seen a need for another network. (Golly, he didn't seem quite that
dumb, before.) Actually, it's not a formal network but a confederation.
(Confederation: a loose alliance joined for a common purpose or goal.)
Any board is welcome; there's no special requirements or oath's of loyalty
required and cross-echoing won't make me unhappy if it meets with the
other nets approval. A board can carry any or all conferences and
be a hub--if that makes sense and he's willing to call on a regular
basis.
If you are a board interested in echoing, a quick way on to The Toolkit
is calling as: HANLIN SOFTWARE
PW: SHAREWARE
This gets you into a mini section of the board where you can leave info
about your bbs and wanting to echo. Leave BBS Name; password to use;
your name; bbs number etc. As soon as I can figure out how to turn
on echoing using MarkMail, you'll have a logon setup for your board.
The current conferences are:
1. Snippets -- an area to discuss programming code and programming
philosophy. This is a structure conference w. no
vendor pimping or off-topic rambling allowed. All
messages will be archived to become a resource for
BASIC programmers. People who change subjects inside
of a thread and don't change the Subject: will be beaten.
2. QB Chat -- talk on or close to the topic we all love. Even vendors
can repeatedly explain why their library does exactly that
until they get their own conference setup.
3. QB Novice-- a place to ask the dumb question we then say is dumb.
A set of bulletins is provided to covers those FAQ's we see
daily to help get a novice going.
4. VB -- whether or not it really is a BASIC/language remains to be
proven, IMHO. But here it is, anyway.
I imagine a PowerBASIC conf can and will be added if requested.
There won't be a sysop only conference although it may be necessary to add
a modest adminstration conference that will be open to all.
Vendors: Any vendor can have a conference of his own upon request. No minimum
requirements to get one; modest activity to keep it. It don't get
no easier, nohow. (He is automatically the conference host and sets
conference guidelines.)
Sysops: Here's a way to provide that added QB fix that your users crave.
If you have other board[s] in your area interested and want to share
cost or whatever and be a hub--you are a hub. If availability
problems occur late hours for event callers will be controlled here
by limiting regular caller access between 1 and 6 AM C.?.T. with hubs
receiving scheduling preference.
Users: It's probably a LD call to get to The Toolkit so bug your sysop
to join in and stick him with the LD bill. He's might be dumb enough
to think it's a good idea.
To the Formal nets: If cross echoing makes sense to you folks, join in.
No board will be turned down. A board will only be dropped for causing
constant aggravation to others. The only rule is no personal attacks--
however, disagreeing is encouraged. If disagreeing get too rampant, it
will get its own conference to avoid aggravating the body as a whole.
As the central hub I have the following extra-legal privileges:
NONE! I will not get overly involved. The network will run as the
users decree. Except! anyone who overquotes or gets too cutsey
with said quoting will be struck repeatedly about the head & shoulders.
by me.
Conference hosts will be elected by and/or removed by the conference
participants and be responsible for conference guidelines during their
term.
Please, don't respond here. That would be off-topic and a discourtesy
to the echo. If you feel strongly, use the HANLIN SOFTWARE logon to
leave me a message here--Toolkit BBS 219-696-3415 HST Dual Standard.
